L3DAN

Level 3 Dance

Although next year timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place in January.

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs T. Price.

You will extend and refine skills, practices and use of technologies in dance genres and styles of your choice. You will develop and produce dance works to communicate choreographic intentions and critically analyse professional dance works, evaluating the artistic features and development of ideas. There is emphasis on the continued development of critical thinking skills and a unique artistic voice.

Where does it lead?  This is a University Entrance approved course and students can also enter for Scholarship Dance. L3DAN is suitable for any student wishing to pursue a career that involves working with people, creative problem solving, and thinking critically. L3DAN is a great course for anyone interested in developing leadership skills and confidence through an artistic medium.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students will work in pairs to create a duet. They will keep a portfolio of their performance practices throughout the term. The performance of the duet and the portfolio may serve as the base for a submission for Scholarship if they choose.

Term 2
Students will complete their major choreographic work for the year. They will produce a 2-4 minute long dance that is choreographed and taught to others. They will also design their own sound, costume and lighting for the work. This work can form part of their Scholarship submission.

Term 3
Students will perform in a group dance. Students often merge the dances they have performed in for Diversity Dance Company, if they are involved in this performance opportunity.
Students will also study a professional dance work in preparation for the external, written examination.

Term 4
Students will revise for their written external examination.

What should I have already done?

While some prior knowledge of dance is recommended, either at school or at a dance studio, if you have a genuine interest in developing skills in Dance, a willingness to work collaboratively, and a willingness to spend extra time building on foundation work, you will be able to progress your learning.
