Course Description

This course is designed to cultivate essential life and employability skills, preparing students for their next steps. Participation in this program is a requirement for those also applying also for the GATEWAY program, which offers the valuable opportunity to spend one day per week in a workplace setting relevant to your chosen industry.
TRADES ACADEMY involves initiatives from providers such as UCOL and PITO. These are year long courses that enable students to gain academic credits while attending sessions offsite for one or two days weekly. (2026 USKILLS link to come).
GATEWAY: To register your interest in the GATEWAY program, please complete the Google Form (link) for the Hospital placement you need to obtain a physical form from the Pathways office, located beside R73.

Please note this is a unit standards course. This means that you can get credits towards your Level 2 NCEA, but they are only marked as Achieved or Not Achieved.
What should I have already done?
To be considered for the 2026 Gateway places you must complete

If you are interested in Trades Academy please come and pick up an application form from the Pathways Department.
We also encourage all of our Level Two students to be working towards gaining their driver's licence, once completed you can apply for the credits for Recognition of prior learning. (Forms are in the Careers office)
