L2DAN

Level 2 Dance

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs T. Price.

What will I learn?   You will be given the opportunity to develop skills, techniques and performance skills in dance genres and styles of your choice. You will consolidate and progress learning from previous years by applying choreographic processes and principles to create dance works that communicate intention. You will develop critical thinking skills by analysing performance and choreography in professional dance works. There is emphasis on collaborative problem solving, developing ideas, and exploring one’s individual artistic voice.

Where does it lead?  L2DAN leads to L3DAN and develops skills needed for any career involving leadership, creativity, problem solving and collaboration.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students will learn to use and apply a range of choreographic processes. This involves learning new methods to generate movement material. Students will use these methods to choreograph dance.

Term 2
Students will complete their major choreographic work for the year. They will choreograph a 1-4 minute long dance to communicate an intention. Students can create the dance for a soloist or a group. They may work collaboratively or individually.

Term 3
Students will perform two performance works. One performance can be of their own choosing. Many students merge the performances they have prepared for Diversity Dance Company with this work. The other performance work is a social or ethnic dance. The genre is decided on as a class and is learnt together as a class.
Students will also study a professional dance work in preparation for the external, written examination.

Term 4
Students will revise for their written external examination.

What should I have already done?

While some prior knowledge of dance is recommended (eg. 9DAN, 10DAN, L1DAN or experience at a dance studio), if you have a genuine interest in developing skills in Dance, a willingness to work collaboratively and a willingness to spend extra time building on foundation work, you will be able to progress your learning.
