What will I learn and where does it lead?
Year 11 English is compulsory for all students. At the end of 2023, Year 10 students will be placed in one of three Year 11 English courses for 2024:
English Studies – The purpose of this course is to develop foundational literacy skills using a variety of everyday text types and forms. Students who are placed in this course will have been reading and writing at curriculum levels 3-4 at the end of Year 10, and will sit the Literacy Standards when their results show that they are ready to do so.
English – The purpose of this course is to reinforce foundational literacy skills in preparation for the Literacy Standards and the requirements of NCEA Level 2 English. Students who are placed in this course will have been reading and writing at curriculum levels 4-5 at the end of Year 10.
English Plus – The purpose of this course is to extend literacy skills in preparation for the Literacy Standards and the requirements of NCEA Level 2 English. Students who are placed in this course will have been reading and writing at curriculum level 5 or above at the end of Year 10.
